AAA Home Improvements ADU Lakewood showcase
In 2022, AAA Home Improvements completed a custom-built Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in Lakewood, Colorado. This project—now known as the AAA Home Improvements ADU Lakewood showcase—transformed an ordinary backyard into a highly functional, stylish living space. From excavation and trenching to high-end finishes and final inspection, this build reflects our reputation as Lakewood’s trusted general contractor for ADUs.
Phase 1: Site Prep, Excavation & Foundation
We began by removing the existing chain-link fence and prepping the site for construction. After grading and clearing, we trenched all necessary utility lines—water, sewer, gas, and electric—from the main home to the new ADU.
We then excavated for a crawlspace foundation, ensuring proper drainage and future access. Concrete footings and foundation walls were poured and cured to support the full structure.

Phase 2: Framing, Roofing & Weatherproofing
With the foundation complete, we framed both the exterior and interior walls, building out the ADU’s compact but efficient footprint. Over the living room and kitchen, we framed a vaulted ceiling for visual volume and light. The roof was sheathed, then finished with architectural asphalt shingles, soffits, fascia, and a custom gutter system with downspouts.
For weatherproofing and energy performance, we installed house wrap, high-efficiency windows, and all exterior doors, including a new garage overhead door.
Phase 3: Rough-Ins & Insulation
Next came the infrastructure:
We roughed in plumbing, electrical, and HVAC to both the main ADU and the attached garage bathroom. All systems were laid out to maximize performance in a compact space.
The crawlspace, exterior walls, and vaulted ceilings were insulated to exceed code requirements, ensuring year-round comfort and low utility costs.
