Let’s talk about new interior design trends for this year! And the classics that are still popular.
Overall, we found that current home design is comfortable, authentic to you, enduring (both sustainable and adaptable), and inspiring!
Here’s a few ways these interior design qualities can show up more in your home:
First and foremost….nature and outdoors vibe. 2020 quarantine times got us more inspired to go outside and be in nature. So, more than ever, we are bringing the outdoors into our home. We love lots of plants, art or wallpaper with nature themes, natural light, and earthy tones. Not to mention to incorporate any way to hang out easily outside to catch some rays or fresh air.
More than ever, our rooms are more multi-purposed, and long-gone are the days of one big light on the ceiling. Definitely try working with layered and adaptable lighting-a mixture of floor lamps, table lamps, dimmers, and canned lights in each room is where it’s at.
Next, try using more sustainable, or upcycled materials, responsibly-sourced items, and environmentally-conscious brands that make it easy to shop for sustainable goods. Check out this article for more tips on bringing this more into your home.
Believe it or not, arches and curves are back! They open rooms and spaces up, creating an inviting sense of softness and warmth. This local Denver designer features this concept here. Additionally, since nostalgia is common right now and mixing in old with the new, the curves bring back the vibe from decades past.
Choosing Colors
Now let’s talk COLOR. Warmer color tones are overall used as accent, or as the main colors….with complementary pops of color OR bold, confident color throughout the scheme. Check out a great example here from a local Denver designer, Truss Interiors. Accent walls are still a great option. For color, interior designer Natalia Miyar says, ‘delicate pinks, soft neutrals and warm browns are great to use if you want to achieve a natural, modern and uncluttered aesthetic, and they make any room feel cozy and comforting. These colors can be used as accents in furnishing or the dominant color throughout a scheme.”
In addition to color, work in a variety of textures, patterns and colors, customizing to your liking and not being afraid of seemingly clashing materials or metals. Play around with it all! Consider this a new interior design trend!
Authentic expression is a popular new interior design trend. What do we mean by this? Capture your own identity in your home. Get nostalgic…try mixing old with the new, bring in artisan homemade items like family heirloom, antique or a piece from your travels, unique art you love, experiment with the shapes, colors and patterns that make you feel at home.
Don’t forget a standard go-to: Nate and Jeremiah say… “use beige!” According to the design icons, it’s good for anywhere and everywhere, for all time.
We hope as you think about investing in your home with furniture, decoration or remodeling projects, that these new interior design trends and resources can help inspire you!
